Four Elements of OpenCape
OpenCape Transport Network (the digital Route 6)
- Day-to-day backhaul transport of education, research, municipal and public safety data.
- Emergency communications transport in crisis situations, complimenting the 800Mhz voice network.
- Existing publicly owned water and communications towers form backbone.
Public Fixed Access (the digital on ramps)
- All emergency evacuation sites gain access.
- School district and municipal governments gain access.
- Public health and library networks gain access.
Commercial Access for Homes/Businesses (a parallel network)
- A parallel private network operated by Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP)
- Businesses and private homes gain access.
- Unwired Village and other private local area networks gain access.
- Provides redundant equipment in emergency.
- Possible funding of maintenance and support for public network.
Commercial Regional Mobility Network (future direction)
- Collaboration among Cape, South Coast, and RI-WINS will eventually result in a wireless mobility network.
- Mobile workers such as VNA, sales, delivery, offshore, and others will be able to connect anywhere from Providence to Provincetown.
